On Rizal And Official Nationalism

Historian and political philosopher, Dr. Floro Quibuyen is set to talk about misrepresentations of Jose Rizal in his lecture titled, "What Nation Was Aborted? Recovering History From Historians" on November 11, Tuesday, starting 4pm, at the Museo ng Maynila (Army and Navy Club), Roxas Blvd., Manila. The lecture is in line with the release of his latest work published by Ateneo Press, "A Nation Aborted: Rizal, American Hegemony, and Philippine Nationalism." The book is said to demand a reorientation from the manufactured notions of Rizal and "official nationalism."

Ms. Gemma Cruz-Araneta, Vice Chair of Manila Historical And Heritage Commission Will open the program, followed by a lecture by Ms. Sylvian Mayuga, and a discussion facilitated by Mr. Alex Dacanay. Also, Quibuyen's critically acclaimed "Hibik sa Dapit-hapon," a film on Josephine Bracken's "imagining" of Rizal's execution will be shown.
